Hoang Thanh Phong was born in 1980. I met him at the Imperial Palace in Hue where he had working space and a gallery on the palace grounds.

He graduated from the Hue College of Arts with a B.F.A. in Lacquer in 2005.  He’s a member of Thua Thien Hue Literature and Arts Association.  He has participated in numerous group exhibitions and art installations both in Vietnam and overseas, winning prizes for his paintings.
